I Just Recertified My RRP

by | May 28, 2024 | Lead Detection, Uncategorized | 0 comments

I just had a wonderful day of RRP Refreshment. It is hard to believe it has been 3-years since my last online class. It just sneaks up on you. The curriculum hasn’t changed much from the initial class but the booklet was updated and I think it has been streamlined. There is still room for improvement IMHO but it covered all the topics well and our instructor had the background information to answer some tricky questions.

My Certificate

What RRP Certification Gives You

By becoming a Certified Renovator, you are allowed to work on homes older than 1978 and have the knowledge needed to lead-safe work practices. You also can teach other non-trained personnel who work for the same company how to do lead-safe work practices. You must be working for a certified firm with the EPA. (The in-person certification is good for 5-years)

What’s A Certified Firm

A certified firm  has gotten their information uploaded to the EPA site and paid the deposit of $300.00  (Good for 5-years)

Who Wants To Work On Older Homes?

I do, and there are plenty of remodelers who do too. The challenge is always there and I find it gratifying to work on old stick-framed buildings. The hassle since 2012 is to gather everything you need to be ready for lead testing and all the things that go along with Lead-Safe work practices.

One-Stop Shop For All Your RRP Needs

During my class, I realized just how much stuff you need to do a project correctly, the checklists, the visqueen, the tape, etc. I decided at that moment that Lead Locators would be a great one-stop shop for all your testing and Lead Safe work practices. Stay tuned and keep an eye on the website for more information as it develops.

Contractors Have No Need To Pre-Test For Lead Based Paint

As a contractor, I know that no testing is necessary in pre-1978 homes. Who cares? The EPA says that all homes built before 1978 were painted with lead-based paint. You don't need to test unless you want to exclude painted materials that don't contain lead. (A...
