West Coast Lead Conference A Hit

by | Feb 5, 2025 | Healthy Homes, Lead Detection, Lead Dust | 0 comments

Lead Locators proudly displayed the Lumetallix instant lead test kit at the West Coast Lead and Healthy Housing Conference in Downey, California. 180 professionals gathered to discuss and hear the latest in healthy housing and where California goes with its lead rules. It is said, “What California does paves the way for the rest of the country.” The movers and shakers of the lead awareness movement provided the weighty content. Many questions were answered, and even more deflected.

California is Slated To Take Over the Lead Rule From the EPA

There is much work to be done and much to be decided between now and then. Max Weintraub, the director of California Health and Welfare, was aware of our product, which was super exciting to me. He mentioned that the New Your Times article had nearly given him a heart attack. Why? I asked because the science wasn’t there. I reassured him that we have it and are ready to share. Connections were made, and that is what a great conference does.

Putting Kits In The Hands Of Public Health Professionals

One of the most meaningful things we did was get starter kits into the hands of over 100 health department professionals. The power of our instant lead test kits is transformational. It is fantastic to reveal the invisible lead dust right before their eyes. These people get it: “This new tool is a game changer.” one person said. “Prevention is our job, but sadly, we always react to leaded kids. Thank you for inventing this product.”

But It Isn’t Recognized By The EPA

This product was created in a laboratory and has the scientific data to support its claims. The EPA administration has a prohibition against products that are more sensitive to what they already have recognized. According to Xander Terpstra, the company’s CCO, Lumetallix, sees no value in diluting the abilities of its product. We are, however, approaching the EPA to become recognized for illuminating lead dust in the environment and a much better way of doing a clean verification for RRP.

We also want recognition for the valuable work it can do in the hands of nonprofessionals to identify and mitigate the risk to individuals who wish to keep their families safe. These are big asks, and they challenge the status quo. This is how progress is made; sometimes, we must roll our sleeves up and get dirty to finish it.

The Wrap Up

We were invited to the next conference in Kansas City. As we move east, the age of the housing stock increases, so Lead-Based Paint is found even more frequently. We hope that as the word gets out about The amazing abilities of the Lumetallix instant lead test. Seeing the lead dust shine green for the first time under UV light is transformational. Thanks to everyone who stopped at the booth and for your encouragement. You are the soldiers doing the hard work of getting the word out.
