Wisconsin School With Lead Dust
As I write this blog, I am reminded about the dangers of not maintaining older buildings where children are present. Child occupied facilities by EPA definition are:
A child-occupied facility is a building, or a portion of a building, constructed before 1978, visited regularly by the same child, under six years of age, on at least two different days within any week (Sunday through Saturday period), provided that each day’s visit lasts at least three hours and the combined weekly visits last at least six hours, and the combined annual visits last at least 60 hours. (Here is the entire definition)
Schools, Daycares, and More
Wisconsin Schools, specifically in the Milwaukee public schools, are in the public eye because they have been deemed to cause kids’ elevated blood lead levels. No lead is the target here, but there is a reportable action level of 5 micrograms per deciliter. So when a bunch of kids turn up at or above the threshold, an investigation called a Risk Assessment is launched to determine the cause. The crux of the problem seems to be poorly maintained older buildings. Imagine you have a kid that is going to one of these facilities. There is a presumed responsibility to keep your kids safe, that sacred trust has been broken.
Solution Based Focus
Lead Locators and Lumetallix instant lead test kits are committed to making the country’s communities aware of our product. Our test instantly reveals the invisible lead dust, which is the root cause of the problem. Once you can see it, lead dust can be cleaned up with soap and water. A scientific breakthrough was discovered in the Netherlands while scientists were solving a problem of trace lead contamination in their solar panel manufacturing problems.
Sample Test Kits Sent

Lumetallix Instant Lead Paint and Dust Kit
We have sent sample kits to those who have agreed to use them. Our idea is to get the product to those who will use it immediately to clean up the dangerous invisible lead dust. Then, after cleaning the area, let the school perform risk assessments. This is how to take action to protect kids.
What Is A Clearance Verification
A Clearance Verification is the procedure used to prove a positive or negative result from a risk assessment. Three dust wipes must be done in specific locations in a measured area, then sent to a qualified lab using a chain of custody form. A certified Risk Assessor must also do the test. It takes a week unless you rush the results, which cost about $100 to process. Why wait? Each of our $75 kits has up to 400 tests and instantly reveals the threat.
Trouble Trouble Trouble
The Wisconsin School crisis is in the hot seat, but it could happen anywhere in America. Old schools ( built before 1978) are primarily sturdy structures that just happened to have been painted with LBP Lead-Based Paint. Lead Abatement is defined as (removing leaded components). Abatement makes sense, IMHO, is far more sensible than crushing the school and starting over, but that decision, as they say, is above my pay grade. In the interim, Lead Locators and Lumetallix are here to shine the lead light on the problem, and with sound cleaning procedures, can safely clean the schools and places where the kids spend time.
