Lead Contamination In The News

by | May 21, 2025 | Advice, Lead Testing | 0 comments

The scenario plays out all over the country repeatedly. A child goes in for a checkup and gets a routine finger prick from their pediatrician for lead. The screening test comes back positive, so they repeat the test, and it is positive again. Then, a venous draw is performed, and when it too comes back positive, the local health department gets involved to do a Risk Assessment. Typically, the health department does the investigation, but it can be subcontracted out.

The Risk Assessment

Senses On High Alert

Every Spidey sense is used to discover the source of lead contamination. Samples of everything are sent to labs, XRF guns come out of the woodwork, you name it, no rock is left unturned. The results of the risk assessment are designed to identify the root cause. Many sources have become legendary in the lead world. The big wins are when food is found to contain lead. Some unlucky child becomes the canary in the coal mine, and then the whole lot of food is recalled, and there is a massive sigh of relief. Typically, the ones who discover the cause are elevated to hero status.

When A Public Cause is Identified

When a public cause for EBLL is identified, it hits the news. Detroit and its lead water pipes were a big story recently, and now Wisconsin and its schools are all over the news. The fact that the story gets airtime is a wake-up call to those entrusted to keep our population healthy. They are failing us by not addressing these problems before they get someone sick. Drawing attention to the problem causes a knee-jerk reaction. Politicians come out of the woodwork to throw blame and divert money to solve the issue. Affected people are emotionally charged (and who can blame them). Sometimes heads roll. Why wait? I say test the environment where kids are preemptively.

Preemptive Testing

If you could see an invisible threat to your children before it causes danger, would you? Oh, Hell, yes! Or would you rather wait until there is a problem to know that some invisible dust could harm your unborn child, young child, or pet for life? I don’t think so! I am writing about the Lumetallix Instant Lead paint and dust test. You can test your environment and essentially do your own risk assessment of your home and child’s environment. I believe it is just a matter of getting the word out about our product until CLPPP will become less reactive and more proactive. I dream of the day high fives go around the table when a lead hazard is identified before a child or pet gets sick. Then we will be getting somewhere.

Rolling Up Your Sleeves

Don’t get me wrong, I trust the good intentions of our public servants. Those in the health-related fields are our allies. I quickly transition from the blame game to the get-er-done mode and want to be part of the solution. Therefore, I have created a company that imports a fantastic new product discovered in the Netherlands, Lumetallix instant lead test for paint and invisible lead dust. Once identified as positive by glowing neon green, measures can be taken to quickly clean it up. If you are a parent of a child under six or have pets, please buy some product and test your environment for lead dust.
