Years ago, I had an incident flying into a backcountry airstrip as a Flight Paramedic, and that reminded me of what is happening with Lead in the USA. I was sitting in the co-pilot seat, and it was pitch black. We had just done a hot refuel at the back pad and, at the same time, did a pilot swap. I am not a pilot, but I frequently sat in that seat and dealt with our radios and cockpit things like having a second set of eyes looking out for danger up front on the way to a call. This one was for an injured party in an area we would typically not go to without moon illumination above the horizon. We did not allow NVGs in EMS at the time.
I had a monocular NVG and admired the scenery on the way to our call. The pilot had created a GPS approach to this area. Although it was dark, he was navigating directly to our spot. Once we hit our target, he changed directions and would fly a new distance, and we would see the place. I think he called it a dogleg left. All was well and good until I realized that we were closer to the treetops than we usually flew and that I could tell there was a mountain between us and the lights bouncing off the canyon.
Tom, I said, “We need to gain altitude.” He said, “No, we’re fine. The radar altimeter is not seeing the ground; we are at least 2,000 feet above ground level.” “No, I said, something is not right here. Look through the monocular.” “Holy cow,” as we abruptly gained altitude, someone had turned off the radar altimeter. He quickly turned it on, and we missed crashing by the grace of God.
The Radar Altimeter And The NVGs Are Turned Off For Lead In Children
We only do crash investigations on children that are already leaded. What a frickin shame. Here, we have the tools to turn on the radar altimeter, yet we let children constantly crash. Sure, we call our programs Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Programs. CLPPP, but they are nothing but a crash investigation tool. A Childhood Lead Poisoning REACTIVE program
Ah-Ha. Here’s Your Problem
It was the apple sauce, the drinking cup or water from it, Your child getting dusted by your father, who works in construction. The tragic tales are long and sobering. Let’s take a collective time out and start putting the P for PREVENTION in to CLPPP. We are reactionary to the core. Squadrons of investigators are standing by to be launched. Sadly, the cows are already out of the barn.
The Night Vision Goggles of Lead Is Lumetallix Instant Lead Test
We can now see in the dark. NVGs amplify visible light 10,000 times. Lumetallix using UV light is 1000 times more sensitive than the EPA RRP program requires. OOH, I want that for my family! No, says the EPA, it is too sensitive; please develop something weaker to fulfill our rules! Can you hear the stupid in this logic? I can.
I want the EPA, the CDC, HUD, and DHW. Kids need help, Parents of kids need help, contractors need help, and the world needs help. This fantastic product illuminates lead dust, too, something no other product or tool we have does. I double-dog dare you to contact me and get this ball rolling. It is never too late to start a program introducing this earth-shattering technology.
