New EPA Dust Clearance Rules Are A Beast

by | Apr 12, 2025 | Advice, Lead Detection, Lead Dust, Lead Testing | 0 comments

According to my sources, getting clearance is even more difficult due to the new lowered threshold for lead dust in federally funded projects or when Lead abatement is happening.

It’s Like Taking An Open Book Test

Open Book Test

Wouldn’t it be great if you knew that clearance was a lab test away? Sure it would! Consider the savings by obtaining your client’s clearance on the first attempt. Not only that, but it is not cheating! Use the Lumetallix instant lead test kit. It makes lead dust visible by turning it neon green. This way, you can prove the site is clean before sampling it and sending a wipe to the lab. It is simple. We have had one reported failure, which we believe was related to too much light pollution.

  • Imagine getting your clients back into their homes sooner. That could save thousands of dollars.
  • Imagine the savings and the time savings of not having to re-clean repeatedly and sending samples in. Those tests aren’t cheap. $100 bucks a pop.
  • Imagine regaining the confidence you once had. Remember when it was one set of samples and TA-DA

Will Lab Testing Be Eliminated For Clearance

I doubt any rule will be made less stringent. The thought of it makes me laugh. When will the word get out about how nifty this product is? Some early adopters are already enjoying the benefits. You could be among them.

Clean Verification Is Not Scientific

The RRP clean verification card is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. It reminds me of the bangity-bang-bang-bang story. The RRP Clean verification card is a joke. The belief is that the invisible lead dust is gone if the dirt is gone. NOT TRUE. The dust is not dirt and could be lingering despite the area being relatively clean to the naked eye. Hey, I know. Let’s test for the thing that will reach out and get you, and if it is found, then let’s clean it up and be satisfied that you did something.

I vote for doing away with the Clean Verification Card and proving that the Invisible Lead Dust is gone. This scenario however,  is not likely going to happen either.

You Can Start Doing The Right Thing

I am a frustrated remodeling contractor who has wanted to make sure that I protect the families I remodel for. I have been a RRP believer to the detriment of others who ridiculed me online about my support for the rule early in its adoption.

What contractor in his right mind wants to leave a trail of danger in their wake. With this new product you can double check the results of your work without cheating or interfering in the RRP process, It only takes a moment to know that your work is lead safe and that my piers will help us all sleep better at night.
