I was able to visit with a great group of enthusiastic people in a wonderful setting. Ideas were shared on all sorts of topics related to lead and healthy housing. The overarching message was that we need to be scrappy and creative, finding funding for the important programs that are being threatened. Some wonderful grants are being granted, and some federal money is still being distributed, so stay the course. Don’t give up. Don’t be discouraged.
Healthy housing is not just a vision; programs are getting the job done, Innovative ideas are out there and being shared. One such innovation is the rental registry. Communities around the country are seeing progress. Shared successes of the new city and county, where self-sustaining programs are bearing fruit.
Highlights For Me
- Lumetallix is in discussion with the University of Notre Dame to include our product in self-sampling lead test kits.
- A study was done in Seattle on eliminating recycled aluminum cookware to stop an entire refugee population from poisoning themselves unwittingly.
- Rental registries are popping up all over the country to focus on healthy housing.
- The entire lead community is waiting for the EPA to make a ruling on Perovskite reactive reagent as a new tool in the toolbox to identify lead hazards.
