Getting The Green Light

by | Mar 30, 2026 | Lead Detection, Lead Dust, Lead Testing | 0 comments

In a recent conversation with a curious prospect about Lumetallix and the benefits of instant identification of lead hazards, I mentioned that we need to “get the green light” to move forward on a path toward EPA recognition and gain the industry traction we deserve.

A Light Went On, Literally

To me, the green light symbolizes a positive lead test. Once the reagent comes into contact with a leaded component, the reaction is instantaneous, but invisible to the naked eye until the UV lead light is switched on. At that point, if the test is positive, the reaction illuminates bright neon green. That includes revealing lead dust hazards, something no other product on the market can claim. The light reveals the results, and left alone, it will continue to show a positive reaction for years.

Getting The Green Light From The EPA

Professionals testing for lead want to use our product, but they need EPA approval before they can officially. The general public doesn’t face that barrier and is already using Lumetallix with great results. I want nothing more than EPA recognition, and I believe we’ve earned it.

The patent-pending product is already recognized in 35 countries and, notably, is being copied by at least two competitors — which raises a serious question: what exactly is in their formulas? We’ve made every effort to open a dialogue with the EPA, but so far have been met with silence. We understand they have a full plate, and we remain hopeful that our turn will come.

We Want The Green Light

Lumetallix is willing and able to move forward with the required testing as a new product category. I’ve done the research and had both national and international companies lined up to do that work. The key ask is straightforward: the EPA needs to be willing to accept our science and amend one paragraph in the lead rules to allow a more sensitive product into the market. New training materials would be required, and new procedures for documenting positive and negative test results would need to be developed. In the end, it will be worth it — because Lumetallix is a genuine breakthrough. It’s easy to use, delivers immediate results, and is cost-effective.

As a contractor, I know that no testing is necessary in pre-1978 homes. Who cares? The EPA says that all homes built before 1978 were painted with lead-based paint. You don't need to test unless you want to exclude painted materials that don't contain lead. (A...
