The Circuitous Path To EPA Recognition

by | Nov 14, 2025 | Lead Detection, Lead Dust | 0 comments

Testing for Lead-based paint is easy and fun with the Lumetallix instant lead test kit. Although the 3M lead test swabs have been off the market since October 2023, we now know that 3M sold lead testing swabs to a company that will eventually reintroduce them to the market under a new name in their original form. Sadly, the EPA will not recognize our Lumetallix Instant Lead Test for use in the RRP program. Why? You ask because a rule 40 CFR 745.88 C (1) & (2) was put into effect on September 1st, 2010, that mandates that any new test must be able to turn on and off as specifically designated amounts. (A feat that I have been assured is impossible in science to accomplish.) It seems crazy, and sure enough, it makes no sense. My hunch is that those who received financial assistance to become recognized by the EPA wanted to close the door to the competition in some silly way.

You’re Going The Wrong Way!

Like the beloved scene “You’re Going the wrong way” in Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, Lumetallix will not consider weakening the test; in fact, they are working hard on their formulation to make it more capable. They honestly can’t control the perovskite reaction as much as they had hoped, so diluting it or making it less sensitive is ludicrous. The holy grail of every scientific test is all about the highest sensitivity and extreme specificity. Many tests have one or the other, but rarely do you find the golden ticket that has both naturally. Lumetallix instant lead test has both in spades.

Lead Dust Is The New Frontier

Thousands of internal scientific tests have been conducted in the lab, and the Lumetallix product has been written about in scientific journals. Recognition for testing paint for lead is not something that Lumetallix will shoot for. Until the EPA comes to its senses and pivots its thinking, we will never see eye to eye with them when testing for lead in paint. It’s about keeping lead dust out of children, remember!

Dust, on the other hand, maybe what tips the tables. Currently, only laboratories can measure lead in dust. Sure, XRF can shoot a dust wipe, but that is not what the tool was built for, and you have to send samples to the lab anyway. Since we can prove that our product illuminates lead dust instantly, I think we can create a new category of product for the EPA to recognize and use for screening for clearance in federally funded projects and clean verification for the rest of the RRP world.

May Our Bureaucrats Be Wise

To the extent that we must deal with the Federal Government bureaucracy to get anything done, we have a new administration that will reportedly let Robert F Kennedy Jr. “Go Wild” on health and medicine. Does this mean there is a snowball’s chance of getting something done? We will see. May those who create and enforce the rules that the EPA, CDC, and HUD follow and enforce be open to evaluating new technology and science like the Lumetallix instant lead test kit for the benefit of all children in this country. The glove has been dropped. RFK JR, has been made aware. We will see what happens and keep our fingers crossed.
